Baroness Andrews visits NDC programme
The Rt Honurable Baroness Andrews (Minister for Local Government) dropped into New Cross Gate last month, part of a whistle stop tour to see the range of New Deal for Communities (NDC) initiatives helping to improve the area.
The tour included a trip to the site of the NDC’s proposed £30m flagship development, an innovative concept themed around healthy living which will comprise residential accomodation, a gym/leisure facility, new doctors surgery, crèche, community café, pharmacy and a library.
Currently enjoying the seventh of its ten year lifespan, the programme (one of 39 across the country) was set up to create opportunities and enhance the quality of life for residents.
Speaking after the tour Baroness Andrews said: “It has been great to meet such inspirational community leaders. I have been particularly impressed with the developments in the area and can see how the programme is making a real difference to people’s lives”.
New Deal for Communities CEO Clive Wilson said: “ We were delighted to welcome Baroness Andrews to New Cross Gate. These are exciting times for everyone living here and the NDC has been working tirelessly to improve the quality and aspirational opportunities for the community and restore a much needed sense of pride and place.”
