LAUNCH OF THE NEW CROSS GATE TRUST

THE LAUNCH OF NEW CROSS GATE TRUST

On 1st November 2009 the successor body to the NDC – the NXG Trust was launched at All Saints Community Centre.  One of the Trust’s main aims is to ensure that local residents help decide how funds support community activities in the future through participatory budgeting.  In line with this the launch included a “Dragons Den” event, in which the Trust allocated £2500 to be distributed between five or more people/organisations who were planning to put on activities that will benefit the residents of New Cross Gate and support the Trust’s objectives to:

  • Improve employment opportunities, promote training and development
  • Improve health and promote healthy lifestyle choices, for example, through the promotion of recreational, sports and leisure facilities
  • Reduce crime and improve community safety
  • Raise educational achievement and promote quality childcare
  • Promote good quality housing and enhance the physical environments.

Nine organisations/people put in bids for funding.  Each of the nine bids were given three minutes to convince launch attendees and the “Dragons” (NDC Chief Executive Clive Wilson, Regeneration Programme Management Consultant Bob Bailey and NDC Officer Carly Newman) that they should get the cash. Launch attendees then voted for their 1st , 2nd  3rd  4th and 5th choices.  The winners were:

Somerville Adventure Playground

So You Wanna Be on TV

Hatfield Skills Centre

JOY

Parent Mentoring Scheme

However, as the quality of presentations impressed the Dragons and attendees so much, the Trust has agreed to fund all nine bids!  The other four lucky winners are:

Tea Dance With a Twist

Rainbow Spelling

All Saints X Factor

Remec.

THE NEW CROSS GATE RESIDENTS PANEL

In the past the NDC board held elections for Board members with every local resident eligible to vote but this is not practical for the NXG Trust. Instead The Trust proposes to have a residents panel made up of local people who are interested in how the Trust will work, be ready to give their opinions on proposed projects and possibly stand for election to the Trust Board or vote for other people who they think could do a good job.

If you want to support the work of the Trust and are prepared to give a little bit of your time to help us make a real difference to the lives of people in the New Cross Gate community then this is an opportunity you should consider.

The New Cross gate Trust  Residents Panel is a new opportunity for the local community to help define an organisation created for the benefit of local people. If you are interested in taking part then please complete the registration form below, and send it back to Dalewyn Daniel either by email or by post:
