Community DevelopmentThe Vision'To empower residents and strengthen community groups so the community plays a key role in NDC decisions and is able to take responsibility for project delivery. This will ensure that regeneration is sustainable and relevant to local people’s needs.' Achieving the VisionNew Cross Gate NDC works with individual groups to develop their organisations and strengthen the programmes that they deliver. We also work closely with the Community Groups Forum offering support to the development of the group as a network of local organisations, as part of our continued aim to strengthen the local community infrastructure. In addition the community development team oversee the residents elections (and delivered 3 successful resident election campaigns to date) and support consultations on the development of the NDC Centre to ensure full resident engagement with the development. What has happened so farSo far we have funded dozens of individual community champions to deliver local projects in their community and given many local groups access to funds through the Community Chest and Community Works!. Additionally HAPI, a sub committee of the Community Groups Forum has made decisions on almost £170,000 of spending for holiday activities in the last 2 and a half years. The Community Group Forum has also made the initial decision to support or develop the majority of projects currently in the Community Development theme portfolio. What else is happening? The Community Groups Forum is in the process of becoming a constituted group and a registered charity so that they will be truly independent and the community development team continues to support its progress. We are also working closely with a partnership of local groups to deliver the Ministry of Youth project. We have also recently revamped our method of working with community groups, provided clear written action plans to all groups that we visit to make sure we identify and work to their needs, thereby improving the effectiveness of our work with them. Future plans5 seats on the NDC partnership board are open for re-election in March 2008. Residents elected will also become trustees of the New Cross Gate Trust which will own many of the assets developed by the NDC programme over its 10 year life span. The election campaign launch will take place at the New Cross Gate NDC annual general meeting. We will be offering training to interested candidates and support with developing candidate statements. We continue to increase our working with Borough-wide partners to ensure community benefits in New Cross Gate, and are working with the Community Development Strategy Group on a participatory budgeting pilot scheme which we can then consider developing in New Cross Gate.
